I didn’t wrote a short post last week. Not because I didn’t want to, but I was in holiday and had not much screen time. So the week 20 of 2021 was really tough.
It started for me on Saturday with the restauration of an old trailer. This was not a big one, but it need much love and time to get it back on the street. The work consists of much physical power. At the end of the day the trailer was: A – not finished and B – I’m totally broken. So I felt into my bed and slept like a rock. At the next day I felt what I did the last day.
All of my muscles burned. I had all over my body muscle soreness. I didn’t expect this, because I’m not a unathletic person, but it seems that I used some regions so heavy that every action on the next day hurts. It was a bit funny, because that feeling I didn’t have for a long time, but also anxiously, because on the next day (Monday) I would went to a climbing park…yeah and that’s how you start your holiday right.
Climbing Park
The day in the climbing park was fun. First of all, my girlfriend an I was very stressed, because we were stuck in a traffic jam and during the pandemic you have to book a time slot…and yeah that was stressful, but we did it.
After a short instruction from the staff of the park, we were able to pick the parcour, which we want to do. We were in other climbing parks in the past, so we decided to start with a moderately difficult one…and yeah no problems, easy-going.
After this first one, we decided to get over the heavy parcours and well, there weren’t really difficult, just a bit higher than the medium and with a handful new elements. So I decided to increase the level of difficulty. I tried to overcome obstacles hands free, where it was possible. But it came as it has to come: I lost the balanced on an obstacles, fall into my safety rope and hit my right ankle so hard that it really hurts for a short time. After that incident I used my hands again.
After 2 hours of “jumping” from tree to tree, our time was over and we left the park. Summarised, it was fun, too easy, but fun. One tip from me: USE YOUR HANDS! ๐
Caravan
The rest of the week I was with our caravan. It’s a little old one. We got it 2018 for free and put A LOT of work into it to get it back on the street. That is huge story about that caravan from 1987, but no worries, I will not write about it. ๐
So after we restored the interior the last years, we want to make the exterior fancy. So it was time to swing the brushes. But before we could start, we had to do much of pre-work: cleaning, masking, grinding and cleaning again.
But before we started the masking and grinding, we had to be sure that our caravan is waterproof. So we replaced all old silicon seams with new ones. That took so much time…you can’t imagine.
After that work we applied the primer. And as you already read, we used brushes and the painter’s roller. We wanted to keep it simple and “cheap”. All the different methods have it pros and cons and I personality never varnish a vehicle with brushes and roller.
Then we started to varnish. We had two RAL colors cream-white (9001) and ruby-red (3003).
The main color is cream-white. With ruby-red we created a horizontal stripe in the middle of the caravan. The color scheme was the some one like original, but we used different colors.
Until Saturday we painted one coat of cream-white and two coats of ruby-red. Then the cream white paint bucket was empty and we hat to stop and order a new one. The interim result was ok. You could see that it was painted with a roller and there some coats missing, but altogether it’ a lot better than before(!) and that’s the goal.
So for now…we are waiting for a new bucket with color, then we can finished our work.
So that was my (our) holiday week. Lot’s of work, fun and stress. But it is worth it. At the End of June we want to travel for some weeks and then we have a fresh looking “new” caravan.
Cheers Bennet ๐ฆ๐ป
P.S. If we finished the work, I will upload a picture of our little hot caravan.
