Imagine this blog runs on a server which is powered by solar. I think this would be very cool and interesting. The last weeks I saw some websites which already did this, such as Low-Tech Magazin, which has an additionally solar-powered version of its website.
Wouldn’t it be great if this personal blog gets so personal, that you access it from a server of my home (instead of a rented web host)? I’m interested in such things and I think in the coming weeks (or months) I will try to set up a solar-powered server. ☀️
Which also means, that this blog can go offline, if the battery is empty and the sun isn’t shining…☁️
To do this, I have to dig a bit deeper into electricity. I mean the basics that I’ve got from school aren’t enough. So I have to “study”. The server hardware will be a Raspberry Pi 3 M. B+, which lies since months unused in the cupboard. For the power-storage I will use an old 100AH car battery. A solar panel with a controller is missing, I thought about 50W, but I will calculate this later.
I’m very exited to start this adventure. I will post updates of the process – don’t know where this will story end.
Cheers Bennet 🦊🍻
